The first Being Socially Enterprising Working Group Meeting will be Thursday 4^th November 1:30 to 3:30 (the venue is to be confirmed please see below).

Our starting point for this working group is the idea of social enterprise as a verb not a noun - something that you do, more than something that you are.

We think this matters because there is often too much emphasis on asking the question "Are we a social enterprise?".  Instead, in this group we want to ask the question:

How could we be more socially enterprising?

We have looked at the themes which emerged from the small group discussions at the Working Group launch, and as a result the theme for the first meeting is:

What does it mean to be business-like?

In this first session we'll explore what that might mean.  How does it fit in with your values?  Might profit get in the way of service?  Or does it just mean getting better at what you do?

Other themes for future sessions, again based on what people said at the launch, include:

• Charging - Can't pay?  Won't pay? Or is it more that we won't charge?
• Market research - how could you do it yourselves?
• Profit - can you make it?  How do you make it?
